Kira's Puppy Mill Journey

Kira, a rescued puppy mill collie, on her road to recovery.

A Kira Painting!

This week I got a wonderful surprise!   An artist friend sent me this beautiful painting he had done of Kira pausing to smell a flower.    It is a painting that captures her so perfectly!   kira painting

For me this painting symbolizes so much…. the emergence of beauty buried for so long and a journey to a place of healing and peace; a journey faced, not only by Kira, but so many other puppy mill survivors and rescued dogs.  All of you who have come along with us on this journey will understand why this is such a meaningful painting for me.  It is a celebration of what is possible.

Sadly, there are so many “Kiras” still suffering in the mills;  breeding mothers viewed as nothing more than commodities who make puppies for profit….  So many who will never have the chance to learn about the sweet smell of a flower.   I hope that by sharing Kira’s story, it will make a difference for those left behind.   I hope that people will be inspired to take action and support rescue group and the groups working day and night to fight puppy mills.

That is why I am so excited that reproductions of this painting, on a variety of products, are being offered for sale by the artist!   It makes me incredibly happy to think that people might carry “Kira Tote Bags” and perhaps in doing so find opportunity to share her story and educate more people about puppy mills!

If you are interested, the website Fine Art America is offering prints, greeting card, tote bags, T-shirts, and other items.   Any profits go to the artist, who will greatly appreciate the support!  (My daughter is an art major – I promise you that artists appreciate being recognized, and even paid, for their art!  So often art, like dog rescue, is simply a labor of love.)

Thanks for sharing my excitement (and for allowing me to shamelessly promote products featuring my own dog)!    I know that if anyone can understand how special this is, it is the readers of this blog!    We’ve traveled a long path with her….

And here is the original photo, taken on a morning when she stopped to smell flowers while walking through the yard.

kira smelling flowers

The flower offered of itself
And eloquently spoke
Of Gods
In languages of rainbows
Perfumes
And secret silence…

I have been so fortunate to share my life with so many amazing dogs. I hope that by sharing the story of one of those dogs - Kira - I can raise awareness about the issue of puppy mills. https://kirapuppymilljourney.wordpress.com/
